NORMAL, Ill. (WMBD) — The Board of Education for McLean County’s Unit 5 met Monday evening to vote on intervening on an appeal that will be made to the Illinois Property Tax Appeal Board.
It involves the Schnucks location in the town of Normal, and a $1 million discrepancy between the store and the appeal board related to the store’s property value. This information is according to Unit 5’s Director of Communications and Community Relations Dayna Brown.
The resolution states that under state administrative code, any taxing body that has a revenue interest in an appeal before the tax appeal board can intervene via legal counsel.
The board voted unanimously to authorize a law firm out of Springfield called Brown, Hay & Stephens to intervene in appeal proceedings to represent the district’s interests, according to Brown.
She added that the Board of Education supports the appeal board on this matter.
