One of the original supermodels, Helena Christensen has been in the public eye for nearly four decades - and her enduringly beautiful looks belie her 49 years. 

Now the Danish star, currently in Melbourne for the city's fashion festival, has revealed the secrets of her make-up and beauty routine - and its surprisingly cost-conscious, with plenty of purse-friendly classics making an appearance.

The mother-of-one shared her hair, make-up and scent must-haves with Into The Gloss, and offered a surprising insight into how she viewed herself during her blossoming years, saying she 'was a chubby-cheeked teenager with a bad perm'.

The star, who once dated INXS singer Michael Hutchence, now lives in the US. Helena resides in New York, with her 17-year-old son Mingus, who she shares with ex Norman Reedus, of The Walking Dead fame. 

While there are plenty of luxury products jostling for space in the former supermodel's cabinet, they share space with more humble items.

 She gushes: 'I'm working with a South African skin product brand that is f****** amazing. It’s called Nimue it's insane.

Favoured by new mums, the supermodel is also a fan of Mio Skincare Boob Tube + Multi-Action Bust Cream, which retails at an affordable £22. 

Bioderma Sensibio H2O (£11) 

And at around £11 a bottle, Bioderma Sensibio H2O is also a staple. The cleanser is ultra-mild and contains a non-rinse micellar water cleanser which is gentle on the skin.

There's a £4 bottle of Nivea Rich Nourishing Body Lotion, Elizabeth Arden's iconic Eight Hour cream - a relative snip at £15 - and even a bottle of men's cologne - Gray Flannel by Geoffery Bean - that can be snapped up online from just £10.

While Elizabeth Arden's famous cream is designed to rejuvenate the whole face, the model reveals that working with talented make-up artists saw her 'pick up a few tricks' including using the product to add shine to eye-lids.

She tells Into The Gloss: 'I always want to do lipstick. It’s one of my favorite singular beauty products. It just changes everything.'

Elsewhere in her make-up bag is a Giorgio Armani 'Luminous Silk' liquid foundation (£40), which the star says she finishes with a little Charlotte Tilbury Bronze and Glow, which comes in at £49. 

When it comes to smelling good, the honorary New Yorker picked out three scents, alongside her own Strange Love range. 

She says: 'I love Narciso Rodriguez scents and Cacharel, or Grey Flannel by Geoffrey Bean.'
