Star Wars is the latest franchise to get the virtual reality treatment, with a new computer generated experience called Secrets of the Empire launching just in time for new movie The Last Jedi.

Taking place at the The Atrium in Westfield London shopping centre, ILMxLAB and The Void have created a VR game that sees teams of four people playing as Rebel fighters tasked with getting their hands on data that could help the plucky Alliance put an end to the evil Empire.

Players head to the volcanic planet Mustafar, which Star Wars fans will recognise as the location of the fateful lightsaber duel between Anakin Skywalker and Obi Wan Kenobi.

The perilous molten world of Mustafar hides vital Imperial intelligence

Taking inspiration from last year's Rogue One movie, the Rebels adopt enemy uniforms as a disguise, namely Stormtrooper gear. You'll also have a droid named K-2S0 along for the ride while you deal with puzzles and take on giant molten creatures.

As well as a VR headset, there are also special practical effects in the play space to further add to the illusion of being part of a Star Wars adventure.

The VR event is happening at Westfield London

Cliff Plumer, chief executive officer at The VOID, said: “Hyper-reality experiences allow us all to fully immerse ourselves within worlds that were beyond our reach until now.

"The power of The VOID will allow guests to step into Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire and not only see this spectacular world, but also hear, feel, touch and even smell as they realize they are a part of this incredible story”.

Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire opens on December 16 for 12 weeks.
