Primark has re-opened its world's biggest store in Birmingham this morning - to much demand.

The bargain fashion retailer initially opened its flagship city centre store last April.

And ever since, it has been a go-to for Brummies and shoppers from further afield, too.

This morning, after the government gave the go-ahead for non-essential businesses to re-open, Primark once again welcomed customers.

It has been shuttered since mid-March, but staff were greeted by queues OVERNIGHT on Monday, with at least 20 outside the store by 6am.

The store was even forced to open doors early, allowing shoppers into its retail unit some 35 minutes before the scheduled 8am opening time.

Lucy Haynes and Mia Allen were two of the first people into the popular fashion store.

“We are just looking forward to going shopping again,” said Mia.

Both had travelled in from Shirley for their big day out.

Around 100 people in the queue for Primark by the time it opened this morning, and that the queue went all the way back to Carrs Lane.

BBC reporter Kathryn Stanczyszyn tweeted: “Hundreds queuing outside Birmingham Primark this morning - they’ve opened the doors ahead of the official 8am start because of demand.”

Primark's CEO, Paul Marchant, said: "We have really missed our customers and we are delighted to be back on 15 June and able to provide them with the quality, affordable products they love from Primark.

"While it might take a little longer to get into store, once inside, customers will find all their favourite Primark products and plenty of choice as usual. We have worked hard to make sure that clear signage and extra help will be there to guide them through the changes we have made to allow for social distancing.

"We are also asking customers to respect the measures we have put in place to help ensure shopping at Primark is an enjoyable, safe experience for everyone."
