State Police say a man stabbed and killed a woman in Peru Wednesday.

Kevin D. Kosza, 27, of Peru was charged with second-degree murder, a felony; fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor; and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.

Police say that at about 2 p.m. Wednesday, State Police responded to a home on Jenkins Street in Peru to conduct a welfare check. They found 23-year-old Kristen E. Remy of Peru dead inside the home.

Police say a preliminary investigation determined there was an altercation that led to Remy being stabbed and a child being left alone.

According to State Police, the Clinton County Sheriff's Office told troopers on scene about a car accident that morning involving Kosza. Police say an off-duty U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent had found him in a field near the accident, which was close to the U.S.-Canada border.

Border Patrol agents responded and rendered aid to Kosza, who was taken to Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh for a medical evaluation.

State Police executed multiple search warrants and arrested Kosza after he was released from the hospital. He was arraigned in Peru Town Court and sent to Clinton County Jail without bail.

An autopsy will be performed on Remy's body at 7 a.m. Friday, April 19 to determine the cause and manner of her death.

State Police continue to ask residents of Jenkins Street and the surrounding areas to check their security cameras for any suspicious activity. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call State Police at 518-563-3761.
