Inditex is expanding into a new area and plans to build its first stores in Iraq by the end of 2025, bringing its global presence to 215 countries. At the same time that the firm’s annual results from its final full year of 2024 were presented, Óscar García Maceiras, the CEO of Zara’s parent company, made the announcement.
In 2025, Inditex plans to open in Iraq as part of its ongoing expansion strategy and channel optimisation. All of its major fashion chains will participate in this market opening by launching their first locations in the nation inside the Iraq Mall shopping mall.
With over a hundred restaurants, 350 stores, supermarkets, apartments, and even a luxury hotel, the new megamall, which will be around 550,000 square meters in size, is expected to open in Baghdad, the capital of the country, by the end of 2025.
The nation will rank as the 215th market where the Spanish fashion giant will be present, and the 98th where it will do so through physical retail, as the group’s major chains progressively open their doors there. Consequently, this dual launch—digital and physical—will enable the business to guarantee that it can offer its new clients in Iraq the same omnichannel shopping experience that it currently provides to clients in the 97 markets where Inditex conducts business.
The company’s ongoing strategy of expansion and optimisation of its physical and digital sales channels, which it continues to build upon during 2024, includes the establishment of Inditex’s first stores in Iraq.
The management of Inditex emphasised the opening of the company’s first physical stores in Uzbekistan as one of the many measures implemented in 2024 to optimise and expand its physical commercial network.
Oysho will launch its first stores in the Netherlands and Germany, Stradivarius will open its first stores in Austria, Massimo Dutti will open its first stores in Denmark, and Bershka will establish its first physical store in Sweden in conjunction with its entry in Iraq.
Aiming to complete eight opening and remodelling projects in 2025, the company is concentrating on the US and has already announced 30 openings, relocations, and expansions for the US in March 2023.
