Having been brought back as a special limited edition last summer, fans of Nestlé’s classic Caramac caramel chocolate bar have been heralding its apparent revival after being spotted once again in UK retail stores, reports Neill Barston.
Shoppers took to social media in July 2024 at news of the late1950s favourite’s return, having originally been manufactured by Mackintosh in Britain and axed in 2023 amid what were believed to be falling sales, prompting tales of longstanding customers stockpiling the final reserves of the treasured treat.
Notably, the company extended its production range into creating a brand new series of Caramac buttons, leading many to believe that the brand was in fact paving the way for its fully fledged return to supermarket shelves.
Consequently, this month, eagle eyed consumers have seen the bars pop up in British discount store chain, Heron Foods, though the Caramac range is not formally listed on the company’s website among its confectionery offerings in 2025. The business had reportedly been stocking them during the limited run up until the end of last year, priced at 39p each.
Indeed, as Confectionery Production discovered, there were in fact several sources of Caramac being sold online, with one business offering a batch of 30 Caramac bars for £28, though any customer would have to be quick to indulge in them, as they were ‘best before’ end of March 2025, indicating they were part of the final batch of bars from last summer.
Though there has been no formal confirmation of whether the brand will be further revived, Nestlé acknowledged that it had been prompted to deliver a further run last year in response to a spike in demand in the wake of its seeming demise. Since the series officially ceased production, other offerings have come into the market, including Cadbury’s Caramilk series.
Speaking on the return of the Caramac bar last July, Lisa Butterworth, Chocolate Classics Brand Manager for Nestlé UK & Ireland, said: “The calls for the return of Caramac were heard loud and clear, and for this unique bar we wanted to create a special opportunity for fans to enjoy it once more.”
“We hope that this limited release gives people the opportunity to savour and stock up on Caramac as a gesture of our appreciation for the longstanding support of our confectionery fans throughout the years.”
