Asda has announced a whopping £80 million investment into raising staff wages across the UK.

Supermarket giant, Asda, has unveiled an £80 million investment into staff wages - raising hourly pay to £12.60 from October.

It has been revealed 115,000 Asda retail and express employees will be expecting a wage boost from £12.04 to £12.60 an hour.

And if you happen to be an employee within the M25 boundary (some London-based employees), you can expect your wage to soar to £13.82.

Since the supermarket was bought by the Issa brothers and TDR Capital in 2021, it has invested over half a billion pounds into its staff members' wages.

The 35% salary increase over four years has seen employees pay jump massively from £9.36 to £12.60.

In addition to Asda's efforts to increase pay, which saw the new rates agreed with trade union Usdaw, the supermarket has introduced new family friendly policies for all staff members.

The new policies will be put in action from July 2025.

And some of the new policies which are being put in place are set to increase maternity and adoption leave from 12 weeks to 26 weeks, increase paternity leave from a period of two weeks to four weeks at full contractual pay, as well as to introduce a kinship carers leave policy and a baby loss pre-24 weeks paid leave.

Asda chief people officer Hayley Tatum MBE said: “We’re proud to have invested more than £500m in retail pay over the last four years.

“Our colleagues are what makes Asda special, and this latest pay investment, plus an increased colleague discount and enhanced family friendly policies, recognises the key role they play in serving customers each day.”

Asda's latest staff pay statement joins supermarket chains Tesco and Co-op's earlier announcements that they were to also increase wages for staff across the UK.
