Pope Francis has appointed Bishop Kevin Doran as Bishop of Achonry in addition to being Bishop of Elphin. The two dioceses, united “in persona episcopi” will be pastorally administered by Bishop Kevin. All in Ballaghaderreen wish Bishop Kevin all the very best in his new role.
The death occurred peacefully of Mrs Aideen O’Malley, Boherbee, Ballaghaderreen on Thursday, February 6th last at Monaghan General Hospital. In her 88th year, Aideen was pre-deceased by her husband, Paddy in December 2016 and her brothers, Patrick and Michael. The late Mrs O’Malley (née Morrisroe) will be sadly missed and remembered with love by her son, James; daughters, Kathy, Grace and Geri; sister, Kay (Flynn); grandchildren, Richard, Nicholas, Claire and Edel; great-grandchildren, son-in-law, John; brother-in-law, Paddy (Flynn); nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends. Her remains were removed from Sharkey’s Funeral Home to St. Nathy's Cathedral, Ballaghaderreen on Friday evening week last. Following Mass of the Resurrection, celebrated by Fr. Joseph Gavigan, on Saturday, February 8th, burial took place in Kilcolman Cemetery, Ballaghaderreen.

Ballaghaderreen FC’s most recent 50/50 draw was won by was Eowyn Duffy who won €240. The Joker was not found. The family support drop-in clinic is a service that is open to all parents, guardians or any family member who is experiencing any type of issue or problem within the family. The death took place on February 9th at University Hospital, Sligo of Mrs Eilish Shannon (nee Giblin), Mahanagh, Cloonloo and Abbey Haven Nursing Unit. She was predeceased by her husband, Joe formerly a Sligo County Councillor, her son Joe, her son-in-law Michael Melia, sister Kay, brothers Fergus and Eamonn, sisters-in-law Eithne Giblin and Mary Sherlock, brothers-in law John Shannon and Hubert Drury. Eilish was a National School teacher and taught in Cloonanure and Mullaghmore National schools. and was held in high esteem by all who knew her. Her remains reposed at her residence and were removed to St Joseph's Church, Cloonloo for her Funeral Mass with burial afterwards in Templeronan Cemetery. Sincere sympathy is extended to her sons, Eamonn, Brendan and David and daughter Margaret; her daughters-in-law, sisters, grandchildren, the extended family and many friends. May she rest in Peace.
The death took place at North West Hospice on February 4th of Mrs Christopher (Christy) Camross, Ballymote and formerly of Shraugh, Cloonloo. A quiet friendly man he will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Predeceased by his brother, Tom and his parents Margaret and Michael. His remains reposed at Perry's Funeral Home and removed to Church of the Immaculate, Ballymote for his Funeral Mass with interment afterwards in Knockback Cemetery. Sincere sympathy to his brothers, Pat, William and partner, Sandra, nephew Michael, niece Patricia and partner Paul their mother Teresa and also by his great friend Camellus May he rest in Peace.
Gurteen Active Age group meets every Monday at 2 p.m. in the Coleman Music Centre. New members are encouraged and most welcome. Activities are arranged and outings -grant aided.
