Good news for Big Lots customers: These are the 54 stores that will reopen in May

A second wave of Big Lots stores is set to open in 12 states in May as the brand’s new owners bring the discount retailer roaring back to life.

Update:

The new owner of over 200 Big Lots locations is continuing to reopen stores that were shuttered last year. In May, 54 more locations across 12 states will join the nine that welcomed customers once again earlier in April.

The rest of the locations will be opened in subsequent waves in the lead up to a grand opening celebration at all the stores with the familiar orange-and-black sign this fall.

Who’s behind the Big Lots comeback?

That would be Variety Wholesalers, the North Carolina-based retail group that bought 219 Big Lots stores and two distribution centers in a deal finalized after the brand was sold to Gordon Brothers Retail Partners. As part of the relaunch, Variety is promising better deals, a wider selection, and something Big Lots never really pushed before, a full apparel department.

CEO Lisa Seigies says shoppers should expect more than just the old Big Lots experience. “Remodeled stores, closeout deals, and new categories like family clothing and electronics” are all part of the plan, though she did admit the early days might look a bit rough. “We know the stores won’t be perfect to start,” she said. “But each week, we’ll add more new products.”
