Nineteen talented acts took to the stage at the once-popular Jumpin Jaks as part of the South Coast Idol contest on March 30, 2007.

The winners of the Southampton final faced the best from other cities in a grand final in May that year.

More than 10,000 performers auditioned for their place in the Live and Unsigned final, the largest of its kind outside TV’s X Factor

Those who took part at the Leisure World venue included:

■ Southampton girl trio Afrodisiac who performed Basement Jaxx hit Do Your Thing.

■ Steve Lowis, also from Southampton, with his own song Everybody’s Falling In Love.

■ Andover’s Kerry Smith with her own track Clueless.

■ Anthony Barnett, also from Andover, performed the Muse version of Feeling Good accompanied by backing dancers.

■ Jodie Topp from Southampton with her reggae version of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody.

■ Southampton duo The Absconded with their own song Shut Up.

■ Roger Styles, from Southampton, with Marvin Gaye’s Heard It Through The Grapevine, accompanied by himself on guitar.

■ Southampton duo Amy and Charlie performed Weak by Skunk Anansie.

■ Ashley Lyons, who travelled all the way from Epsom to perform Celine Dion’s Think Twice.

■ Joanne Feasey, from Basingstoke with Black Velvet by Alannah Myles.

The 2007 grand final was held in May 2007 at Portsmouth Guildhall to an audience of 2,200 and the competition was divided into age categories.

The beat-boxing duet Ghoodfellaz'z, who won the regional competition in the North West, won the Urban Award.

Fizz Reynolds won the Under 18's Award for a female singer and the overall under 18's award while 13-year-old Jake Ward won the Under-18 category for boys.

Hardly Heroes took home the under-17s Best Band Award, and B-Kay and Kazz were awarded the best Live and Unsigned vocal group.
