Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and First Deputy Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council opened the 25th edition of Arabian Travel Market at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
The region's largest gathering of hospitality and tourism professionals and companies will witness more than 2,500 exhibitors and 40,000 industry professionals from 150 countries attending the 4-day event.
More than 100 new exhibitors from Finland, China, Hungary, Poland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, UAE, India, Kurdistan, Japan and Indonesia are set to make their ATM debut this year.
The total value of the 1,156 hospitality and tourism projects in the GCC region exceeded Dh539 billion in March 2018. As many as 492 hospitality projects worth Dh144.6 billion are currently on progress - including tender and under-construction stage, said BNC Network.
According to the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), the emirate needs 40,000 additional hotel rooms in order to host mega event such as Expo 2020. Dubai's nearly 600 hotels and serviced apartments collective has an inventory of more than 100,000 hotel rooms.
